Adelson Family Leads with $5 Million Gift
The Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home Foundation in Chelsea, Massachusetts is pleased to announce a $5 million gift from the Adelson Family Charitable Foundation in support of the development of a new, innovative model of nursing home care.
Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson have made the $5 million contribution to support the development and construction of the Leonard Florence Center for Living, named after their friend, the late Chelsea-born philanthropist. The Leonard Florence Center for Living will be a GREEN HOUSE® nursing care facility that has the potential to transform long-term care in Massachusetts and nationally. The Green House model provides nursing home residents with more dignity, choice and autonomy than is customary in traditional nursing homes by creating home-like residences while providing assistance with activities of daily living, clinical care and nursing care.
The Leonard Florence Center will be the first urban Green House model in Massachusetts, as well as the first in the country. It will be open to people of all income levels, and will have separate Green Houses for populations such as those with ALS, Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis.
Dr. Adelson said, “We feel so good to be able to help provide a home for the needy elderly done in a dignified setting. This project promises to be a national model for innovation in nursing home care.”
“This campus was the dream of our dear friend Leonard Florence, of blessed memory, who cared deeply for the needs of the elderly,” said Mr. Adelson. “We are happy to help bring his vision to reality.”
The gift from the Adelson Family Charitable Foundation will support a campus consisting of three facilities: the Cohen Florence Levine Estates assisted living, the Florence & Chafetz Home for Specialized Care, and the Leonard Florence Center for Living. Therefore, the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home is proud to be naming the campus The Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson
